Folkvang Samhain ritual 2007
Gothi: Waes Hael all who are here and hale met! Be welcome in the hearth of Folkvang the home of My Lady Vanadis. We gather here to celebrate the sabat festival of Samhain.
As this is a place where different traditions can meet and exchange ideas it is a place of peace. I would ask any who have brought weapons with them (except those to be used in ritual) to leave them outside the Hearth or remain outside themselves.
Gothi: So I bid you Welcome here, gathered in Troth together with each other and with The Aesir and Vanir.
From a small stone harrow I take a Viking broadsword and I say: ’ sprits of this place, Lords and Ladies of Aesir and Vanir I mark this place as sacred and beyond Midguard.’
Then I make the sign of the rune Thurisaz at the quarters saying:
“With Thurisaz to the North, Thurisaz to the East, Thurisaz to the South and Thurisaz to the West, do I mark this space; with Thurisaz above and below. Let these runes prevail as a protection for all here in this holy place until our ritual is done! So Mote It Be!”All : So Mote it Be!

Gothi:
Gothi: Hail to our ancestors!
All: Hail!
Gothi: Samhain is a time of Death. In Saxon times it was the time of the year when the sore of hay and fodder was assessed to see how many animals there was food for over the winter. Any that couldn’t be fed were culled, this led to the Saxons calling November: Blottmonath, or ‘Blood Month’. It is also a fitting time to think about things we need to die within us. Time to let go of things we no longer need as part of our lives, so that those things we do need can grow and prosper.
Gothi: The next round is of oaths. Any oaths taken here are considered sacred. Those present are troth bound to help in enabling the person making the oath to keep it. At this time of year especially you may have things that you want to take an oath on. Remember that Var dislikes an oath breaker. Say your name if there are there any here who wish to make such an oath tonight. I will direct who takes a turn next.
Oaths
After each Oath : This I swear in front of The Aesir ,Vanir and Those here present .
All: Heard and witnessed!
Gothi: And one last toast for ourselves:‘ Flags! Flax! Fodder! Frig!
All: Flags! Flax! Fodder! Frig!
Gothi: pours the remaining mead on the ground, and says:
“Gods and goddesses of Aesir and Vanir, Be with us in our lives, or go as you will. Accept this as a mark of thanks and sign of our troth. So mote it be!”
“Let the Hearth be open, any spirits elves or dwarves trapped by it be released, and all here be free to go with no bonds except those of troth and friendship.”
“Hale met! And Hale Part! Waes Hael!”
